How Does a Student Participate?

All first-time, first-year students admitted for the Fall 2021-22 academic year are opted in, but will have to complete a few steps listed in the checklist below. The information from the survey, as well as any Math and English placements are important since these will help us create a schedule that launches your academic career at Sac State with the right combination of courses. Checklist

New Hornets, be sure to complete or submit these in a timely manner:

  • Submit your Intent to Enroll. The earlier you do so, the earlier we will be able to start creating your schedule.
    The Intent to Enroll form is available in your Student Center in My Sac State once you are admitted to Sac State.
    Deadline: May 1, 2021

  • Complete your Student Survey. As long as you have submitted your intent to enroll, you will receive a link to a student survey in your email. These are sent on Fridays. Your responses to this survey will help us create your schedule. While we cannot guarantee that we will meet scheduling preferences, we will make every effort to do so.
    Deadline: May 8, 2021

  • Take Your ALEKS PPL Math Placement. ALEKS PPL is a tool that helps the university evaluate the math readiness of students in disciplines that require statistics or calculus. It also helps students know that they are ready for the first-year math course in which they are placed. Most importantly, based on a student’s performance, ALEKS PPL recommends “Preparation and Learning Modules” that will help the student review areas where improvement is needed.

  • Take the Directed Self-Placement for Writing. Directed Self-Placement (DSP) is a program designed to help entering students determine which first-year composition course is the right choice for them.
