Sac State offers high-quality counseling benefits for employees and their family members through the Employee Assistance Program, our onsite Center for Counseling and Diagnostic Services, and under coverage with an employee’s medical provider through negotiated benefits. Employees also have access to a diverse variety of wellness classes and resources.

Get direct assistance from a professional counselor for you and your family members 24/7 through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Calls to the EAP are not tracked and your information is confidential. The EAP offers high-quality counseling benefits for employees and their family members for a wide variety of issues including

  • Stress, depression, and personal problems
  • Balancing work and personal needs
  • Family and relationship concerns
  • Alcohol or drug dependency
  • Workplace conflicts.

Employee Assistance Program

Counseling through Employee Medical Plans

Sac State provides best-in-class medical benefits for employees and their families. These plans include a wide variety of counseling and therapeutic services. Employees are encouraged to explore their medical plan's full range of mental health support options, which often include 24/7 emotional support, 1:1 counseling sessions, group therapy, coaching, addiction and recovery programs, and stress reduction programs.

On-campus support is available to staff through the Counseling & Diagnostic Service Center.

A variety of in-person and online events are held for Sac State employees to boost wellness throughout the year. These are posted and updated in the campus Employee Wellness events calendar:

Wellness Classes provided by Medical Providers

Employees are encouraged to explore their medical benefits and engage with their chosen medical providers to take full advantage of ongoing health management and wellbeing programs offered throughout the year by highly skilled subject matter experts. Options often include in-person and online classes and 1:1 coaching.

Gym Memberships and Wellness Apps

Sac State employees receive significant discounts on local gym memberships and have access to free or inexpensive wellness apps. For example:

  • California Family Fitness offers 25-40% off monthly dues for Sac State employees and their families.
  • Health care providers offer fitness program discounts, and employees are encouraged to utilize these benefits. As an example, one health plan offers a drastically reduced monthly membership fee to fitness centers, 10-50% off fitness merchandise, and discounted rates for complementary health services such as acupuncture, chiropractic care, and massage.
  • Employees can access Sac State’s onsite WELL facility for $19-33 per month. Free tours are provided to showcase this award-winning wellness facility that offers a full gym and studio classes.
  • Employee health plan providers often offer free wellness apps to their members. For example, Kaiser provides acess to CALM (the #1 wellness app in the U.S.), Ginger, and myStrength, Sutter Health provides Sanvello, in addition to others.

Sac State Steps Together

In the past, Sac State Steps Together was offered as a cohorted group experience. Due to many employees working hybrid schedules, the program has been transitioned to an online, self-regulated program. All employees are invited to participate in their own self-monitored walking program with the help of the following resources designed to help walkers begin and maintain a walking program.

Virtual Calming Room

This Virtual Calming Room is a place for employees to find tools and strategies for managing emotions and feelings with the hope of building resilience through self-care.

Be sure to check out the “Workouts” section of the Virtual Calming Room to get free access to on-demand yoga classes, full body workouts, core and resistance trainings, and 15-minute boxing classes. These links make it convenient for employees to be able to participate in multiple forms of exercise from any location at any time.
