Faculty Scholarly & Creative Activity Award Opportunity

Priority Deadline: Closed

The College of Arts and Letters is pleased to support the Scholarly & Creative Activity Awards Program for the 2024-2025 academic year. This funding supports faculty contributions to their disciplines through research, scholarly, and creative activity. Recipients must commit to producing a deliverable such as an article, book chapter, award proposal, new work of art (e.g. visual, musical, literary, performative, or curatorial), etc. via professional development funds for spring 2025 (funds can be carried forward to fall 2025 if needed) or additional pay for summer 2025. • Provide seed funding for external grant applications

Outreach, Recruitment, and Retention Department Grant

Priority Deadline: Closed

The College of Arts & Letters is pleased to offer funding to departments to support student outreach, recruitment, and retention efforts. Departments and Programs are strongly encouraged to use this opportunity to develop strategic plans to expand their reach/presence in underserved communities, increase enrollment, grow major programs, advance students’ academic progress, etc.

Proposals should include short- and long-term plans that cover the current 2024-2025 AY and beyond. The College encourages proposals that include: 1) cross-departmental/program collaboration, particularly for travel/site visits, and/or 2) coordination with SAGE and/or department SSP.

Proposals should be a maximum of 750 words and include:

  • Overview/description of specific outreach, recruitment, and retention plans and timeline for implementation
  • Explanation of where the department/program currently stands in terms of enrollment, number of majors/minors, graduation rates, etc., with relevant benchmarks to help situate and lend coherence to the proposed plan
  • Description of expected reach and projected impact on recruitment and retention, particularly in relationship to any previous program reviews, assessment plans, and/or action plans.
  • Budget of anticipated costs.

Note: Outreach, Recruitment, and Retention funding covers only direct costs related to efforts, activities, etc., and funds may not supplement faculty/staff compensation. For example, funding may be used to reimburse mileage expenses to and from—but not time spent at—an off-campus recruitment activity.

Proposals must be emailed to Arts and Letters Professional Development al-profdev@csus.edu by the department chair by Closed.

Curriculum Redesign Award

Priority Deadline: Closed

The College of Arts and Letters is pleased to support Curriculum Redesign projects for the 2024-2025 academic year or carried forward into the 2025-2026. This funding supports efforts to offer an innovative curriculum to attract students, improve time to degree, engage students in current and evolving disciplinary perspectives, research, technology, etc. Curriculum Redesign Awards will be in the form of professional development funding to be awarded at the time of project completion. Project completion is defined as the approval of Form As and/or Bs submitted to the college curriculum committee for review and shepherding the proposal through to implementation. Specifically, implementing course revisions requires the department chair’s authorization for the redesign to be implemented across all sections with a timeline for offering it in the schedule.

Faculty collaborations are encouraged as well as proposals from across programs/disciplines. Priority will be given to Curriculum Redesign proposals that focus on substantial revisions to large-capacity and impactful courses and/or substantial revisions to programs or program pathways to:

Implement best practices to demonstrably reduce DFW rates and equity gaps.

  • Improved preparation for transfer students new to a discipline/field – to offer pre-requisite and pipeline courses on an accelerated schedule/format to catch them up to their cohort and preserve the 2-year pathway.
  • Revise courses to improve inclusive and equity-minded teaching and learning for large or multi-section courses – changes must be implemented across all sections of multi-section courses.
  • Revise courses and/or program pathways to include a substantial element of experiential learning for students.
