  • Be able to define homogamy, assortive mating, endogamy, exogamy, and heterogamy; be familiar with the factors that foster intermarriage, biological and social forces that control human sexuality, functions of marriage, trends and power balance in conjugal relations..
  • Reflect upon your experience: Have you dated people of the same racial/ethnic background? Do you prefer to date with those having similar background and characteristics as yours? How have you handled the pressure toward premarital sex?
  • Observe inter-racial dating patterns and sexual behavior on and off campus.

  • How does the "marriage squeeze" affect married couples in the U.S. as they age?
  • How does Western culture compare with other cultures with respect to the "love" component of marriage?
  • Do you feel you are receiving mixed messages concerning sexual behavior: one that says sex is "natural" and the other that sexual feelings must be controlled? How are you dealing with them?
  • What factors do you consider important in having a successful marriage?
