Michael Brown Sr., father of the 18-year-old man killed in August 2014 by a police officer in Ferguson, Mo., delivered a moving, personal message to a gathering of students, faculty, staff, and community members in the University Union Ballroom on Thursday, Oct. 20.

Michael Brown Jr.’s death sparked a nationwide movement focusing on shootings involving police and African American men and women.

In his talk, titled "Chosen for Change – A Father's Perspective," Brown Sr. took the audience through his personal experience dealing with his son’s death and its aftermath, and his efforts to provide support for families in similar situations through his Michael Brown Foundation.
